INTRODUCING | JACK THE HUSTLER

A few weeks ago Yeti received a friendly email from ‘Overcooked Records’ with some very exciting new music attached. A relatively new label to the scene, the Paris based imprint was established only last year by Niko Baritone and several of his mates. At the core of Overcooked Records lies an underlying focus and passion for quality dance music regardless of genre or style. And with twenty exclusive artists from all over the globe already on the roster, Overcooked our well stocked and ready to supply 2012 with a range of eclectic sounds.
Overcooked introduced us to a duo from Finland who’ve been producing some fine tropical house under the guise, Jack The Hustler. Their brand new EP which is now available on, yes you guessed it, Overcooked Records has been turning heads within the industry. With plenty of percussion, subs and very catchy chords this EP simply couldn’t fail to bring heat to a dance floor. Think French Fries, Spectr and a hint of Stanton Warriors.
Yeti took some time to get his introduction on with the Finish Duo, here’s what they had to say;
Who are you? Story behind your name?
We are brothers Mitja and Petja Virikko. We are both drummers and music lovers from an early age. Much hasn’t changed since only now we also produce electronic music.
The name pretty much started from a joke about playing cards. We used to have this laugh about the jack of the face cards being a bad boy; making money, having it off with the queen and all that.
It just kinda stuck with us and when we started to make electronic music we had an idea of combining smooth and graceful music with “Tony Montana-ish” badness and then again the hustlin’ bad boy Jack came back.
“…we had an idea of combining smooth and graceful music with “Tony Montana-ish” badness…”
How would you describe your work?
We listen to all kinds of music and we take influences of all that.
It might be that one of us have been listening to Hip Hop and the other one minimal house and when we go to studio we like to combine these two different things togehter.
So its kind of mixture of two unlikely things like smooth, graceful sounds and ghetto beats.
Favourite sound?
Somewhere between bowel shaking bass tones and the smoothest pads one can find from a synth.
“We like to party drinking ‘jaloviina’…”
Whats your studio saying?
We work on a combination of hardware and software. We make tracks in Logic but we also use hardware synths and sound makers as well.
We have a set of different types of synths like analog, digital and more obscure ones like casio’s phase distortion. We also have a weird fully analog drum module from Tama which is great for drum samples.
We like to have different kinds of synths around us when making music because every synth is a different approach to a sound.

“…yetis are pretty common sight.”
Who are you listening to at the moment? Anyone you would recommend to the Yeti’s?
We’ve been listening to Disclosure and Leon Chase a lot lately.
We recommend to the yeti’s around the world to check out Leon Chase’s sound! Another duo from the Overcooked family!
Where do you party?
We party wherever there is good people and good music.
How do you party?
We like to party drinking ‘jaloviina’ which is a specific type of finnish liquor.
How many Yeti’s are there in Finland these days?
It’s winter here now so yetis are pretty common sight. It changes a bit towards summer but not much, they can be seen here year-round nowadays.
Thanks Jack The Hustler
