INTRODUCING | ANGO

Written By: arthur on July 19, 2010 2 Comments

On a recent visit to the International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia arts (or in Lehman’s terms, Spain’s most exciting and forward thinking festival , Sonar ) I encountered some of the most innovative and mind-blowing artists this planet has to offer. At the very centre of this sonic world was the Red Bull Music Academy Stage, which not only served as a platform and launch pad for electrifying young talent but also, as a birth house for the future of music to come.

Andrew Gordon aka ANGO particularly caught my eye with his affluent fusion of styles, crossing boundaries of synth driven Hip Hop through to Dub/2Step, whilst digesting the darker sides of techno only to regurgitate nose bleeding Electro. His unpredictable set allowed a glitch remix of dirty south Crunk to co-exist with his ‘first inspiration’ the ‘Lion King’ soundtrack. With offbeat basslines, snares and bleeps flung all over a jam packed arena, I soon found myself ducking and getting low, real low…low like my name was Shaneeeeqwa “Guuuurl is that a Dollar on the floor…?” low.

What else is gwanin’ in the world of Ango? Aside from holding things down as a crowd motivator at Montreal’s: Turbocrunk . Ango is polishing off his production skills with Ninja Tunes Sixtoo whilst also working on a collaborative new album with British female MC,‘Sontiago’. Look out for “You should know ANGO” podcast and “ADSR&B;” mixtape with flavours from 80’s R&B; and funk chopped up over heavy synths and sub. Keep your eyes peeled for more releases on Halifax based indie label Noyes Records.
